TapSense

This new technology enhances the use of touchscreens by enabling users to interact with different parts of the finger, or use different objects to apply alternate interactions to just the regular swipe and tap.

The system works with existing touchscreens and is based around analysing the sound made by whatever is hitting it.

The Power of Gamification in Practise

Foldit

In a unique approach, The University of Washington has successfully used a game entitled 'FoldIt' to crowdsource protein manipulation services from people around the world. Using this game, the protein was mapped in just  3 weeks, and will now be used to potentially cure cancer and prevent AIDs.

This proves how powerful game mechanics can be in acting on people's engagement, motivation and performance – not only have these mechanics made billions for Zynga with Farmville, but they've now helped progress AIDs and cancer research.

Lanvin Wants You

An interesting move by the French design house, Lanvin, sees them take the piss out of typically snobby fashion campaigns with their Fall 2011 advertising campaign. The piece features our friend Karen Elson, along with Raquel Zimmermann and Lanvin’s head designer, Alber Elbaz, all dancing (badly) to the much loved Pitbulls track - “I know You Want Me”. The campaign is shot by lens man de jour, Steven Meisel.

Street Artists from around the world singing "Stand By Me"

Stand By Me | Playing For Change | Song Around The World from Concord Music Group on Vimeo.

My Dad has been a musician almost his entire life. He plays in a blues and jazz band as  a bass player and last night sent me a link to the best pieces of sound engineering he’s ever heard.

It’s a video of street singers from around the world being recorded, overlayed and mixed with one another while singing the song "Stand By Me".

It is a marvel to listen to and watch.  They all deserve to be heard.

  The finished product is tremendous!
